Who is Alan?
I have dedicated my professional life to Malta’s tourism industry — as a business leader, educator, and national representative for the sector.
With over 16 years of experience in inbound tourism, I currently serve as Co‑CEO of the country’s premier incoming tourism organisation – Robert Arrigo & Sons. My work spans strategy, destination management, tourism product development, and the long‑term competitiveness of Malta as a destination.
I hold a Master’s degree in Tourism from the University of Malta, where I also lecture part‑time. Lecturing allows me to bridge theory and practice, helping the next generation of tourism professionals understand the realities of an industry that shapes our economy, environment, and society.
Beyond academia and industry, I represent the tourism trade at a national level. I sit on the Council of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, and I serve on the main board of the Malta Tourism Authority — where policy, strategy, and long‑term vision converge.
I created this platform to explain how tourism really works — in a way that is factual, accessible, and grounded in real experience from within the industry. Here you’ll find:
- Insights into Malta’s tourism strategy and long-term direction
- Policy ideas for a more sustainable and competitive future
- Clear explanations of complex tourism topics
- Myth‑busting, data‑driven analysis
- Reflections on how tourism affects Maltese society
My aim is simple:
To help make tourism easier to understand, and to contribute to a more informed national conversation.
This blog is written for the Maltese public, policymakers, students, and anyone interested in understanding the forces shaping one of Malta’s most important industries.
